Filmmaker Sudipto Sen's latest directorial venture The Kerala Story has been making headlines. While some have condemned the movie, calling it a 'propaganda' film, many have also praised it and the box office figures speak for themselves.

The movie has recorded Rs 45.52 crore on day four since its release and is expected to surpass the Rs 50 crore mark today, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film collected Rs 10.07 crore on Monday.

While Monday witnessed a drop in its figures in contrast to the success the film recorded over the weekend, the Monday figures stand higher than the film's opening figures. The movie has also been a trending subject on social media over its controversial content.

Mamata Banerjee bans film in West Bengal

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently announced a ban on the film's release in the state in order to avoid violence and maintain peace, law and order, making it the first state to impose a ban on the film. Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has joined the likes of the Madhya Pradesh government in declaring the movie tax-free.

More on The Kerala Story

The movie features Adah Sharma, Sonia Balani, Siddhi Idnani, and Yogita Bihani in the lead and tells the story of three girls who went missing in Kerala and were later made to join the terrorist group ISIS. However, the number was reduced to three after the movie's trailer, which initially claimed a concerning alarming number of 32,000, was met with backlash. While Sen maintains that his movie is based on the harsh and ugly reality, those opposing it continue to question its facts. Interestingly, the movie has now been released with a disclaimer that states the film is a work of fiction.
